author

O. P. PODDIMNIKOV

abstract

Regular crisis phenomena in the stock markets and in the economy against the backdrop of the actions of central banks and governments require detailed study. The subject of this study is the causes and consequences of a change in the stock and credit cycles, an analysis of the economy during the periods of this shift, as well as the impact of state economic policy on the state of key macroeconomic indicators. The study used the methods of classification, clustering and comparative analysis; The theoretical basis of cyclic dynamics is considered; analysis of cycle changes from 1998 to 2018; The main characteristics of the periods of the stock and credit cycle change are revealed; an assessment of the risk of cycle changes for Russia and the United States. Based on the research materials, the following conclusions are made. Periods of prolonged prosperity motivate actors to actions that destabilize the system, which increases the risk of a crisis in the economy. During the change of the considered cycles, the classical sequence of their dynamics is violated: not a recession in the economy causes a drop in the stock market, and a drop in assets can cause a recession, which can only be prevented by state anti-crisis programs. The proposed methodology will improve the effectiveness of public policy during periods of cycle change. Thanks to the results of its application, investors can increase the efficiency of investments in various market conditions. Businesses will be able to use this technique for more sound financial policies.
