Abstract
The article deals with the issue of the interrelationships of the general underdevelopment of
speech in older preschool children and the peculiarities of the development of their cognitive sphere; substantiates
the need for remedial classes as a purposeful preparation for school. The article describes the method of
teaching reading to older preschoolers with general speech underdevelopment through the formation and
development of letter gnosis.
The analysis of statistical data presented in the article before and after correctional classes with preschoolers
who have a general underdevelopment of speech of the IV level proves the effectiveness of the
described methods of work of the speech therapist and the program as a whole.
