Abstract
In this article, an analysis has been conducted of the current Human Development Index (HDI) values for the Russian Federation in comparison to foreign countries, as well as for Saint Petersburg in comparison to other regions of the country. Additionally, the author has identified shortcomings in the existing approach to calculating the HDI and has proposed a methodology for calculating the corresponding measure using a new composite indicator for more accurate assessment of this index.
