Abstract

This article discusses the problems of developing imports to Russia under the conditions of sanctions restrictions. In February 2022, Western countries began to impose unprecedented economic sanctions against the Russian Federation. The sanctions affected all sectors of the Russian economy. The most sensitive blow was the ban on the transportation of various kinds of goods, which significantly affected the volume of Russian imports and, as a result, the activities of import-oriented enterprises. In the structure of import transportation to Russia, the share of sea container transportation is high, as this is the most economical way of cargo delivery. The largest shipping lines in the world refused to cooperate with Russia, which negatively affected the volume of sea transportation. The withdrawal of global container carriers from the Russian market has led to a shortage of containers. The article analyzes the world’s major sea lines, examines the most significant operators of container/liner transportation and data on their carrying capacity. The possibilities of the leading Russian shipping container companies FESCO and SASCO are evaluated. New regular sea container lines have been highlighted. Conclusions are drawn about the expansion of trade relations between Russia and the countries of Southeast Asia and related problems are identified.
