Abstract
This article shows the importance of differentiation of hating and open expression of one’s opinion for the normal functioning of social networks as platforms for the formation of public opinion. In the course of the survey, the degree of admissibility of various types of critical statements from the point of view of the users themselves was studied using a specially developed methodology. The results showed that the majority of users have an extremely negative attitude towards hating and are positive about discussion, guided by similar criteria when defining and identifying them, which indicates the development of self-regulation mechanisms in social networks. At the same time, it is difficult for users to distinguish between ethics as a system of requirements for discussion and ethics as a subject of discussion, as a result of which it is possible to block opinions that do not coincide with the group opinion.
