Abstract
This article reveals the essence of such a term as “competition”. Its interpretation is given, and emphasis is placed on the study of the main types of competition, among which perfect and imperfect competition are in great demand. The second type, in turn, includes oligopoly, monopoly and monopolistic competition. In addition, we considered the main consequences of rivalry, having both positive and negative effects on the development of the economy as a whole. Undoubtedly, in our opinion, the topic of our research is very relevant, since the market of goods and services is always in the phase of creating various innovations and strives to improve its goods or services, which becomes possible due to the presence in the economic environment of such an important component as competition.
