Abstract
This article examines the essence of monopoly, identifies its main causes of emergence, considers the classification of each kind and type of monopoly, and gives a comparative characterization of the main advantages and disadvantages of the object of our study. In addition, we considered the specific features of monopoly, which distinguish it from other types of competition. Undoubtedly, the chosen topic of our study is very relevant and at the present stage of development of society and economic system, because each of us in the process of life, perhaps without even realizing it, faces monopoly, being, first of all, a consumer of electricity, water, gas, etc.
