Abstract
The article systematizes approaches and provides arguments for the study of the theory and methodology of managing the development of the region as a mesoeconomical system. Modern economic realities pose problems to management theories that cannot be solved on the basis of the postulates of the neoclassical traditional system, which assumes the division of the economy into macro and micro levels. More and more scientists are substantiating the hypothesis of the need to build a more complex institutional structure of the economy, highlighting micro-, macro-, meso- and nanoeconomical levels. In the article, the author sets the task to prove that the management of the region as a mesoeconomical system allows achieving sustainable development.
