Abstract
Protection of intellectual property has recently become an increasingly popular and widespread topic of discussion, both at the level of legislators and business structures, right holders and, finally, consumers. The growth of counterfeit products sales is a problem of the whole world community and poses a threat not only to right holders – due to infringement of their intellectual rights, reduction of demand for original goods, reduction of profits, etc., but also to the state as a whole – undermining the investment attractiveness of the country and hindering economic growth. In this situation, the importance of a special conceptual analysis of the counterfeit sector of the modern economy, which would reveal the causes and prospects of its dynamics, as well as to develop an effective economic policy of anti-counterfeiting orientation, increases.
