Abstract
Sustainable development is a strategic goal of any region, the achievement of which requires an integrated approach and active activity. The foundation of development is the innovative potential that promotes innovation in all areas of life. The use of innovative potential makes it possible to ensure the sustainable development of the region in the long term. The problems of realizing the innovative potential of the region, inextricably linked with the possibility of transforming scientific knowledge, ideas, discoveries and inventions, existing technologies into new or improved products and into production based on the use of public, natural and economic resources, necessitate the improvement of tools for its assessment in order to develop conceptual foundations for sustainable development. The generalization of methodological and theoretical experience of accumulation and use of innovative potential is designed to contribute to the achievement of priority tasks of the state, the growth of its national economic security and the construction of an effective development model.
