Abstract
The article examines the relationship between state support for agriculture and the strategic goals of the industry development. Based on the systematization of scientific literature and official documents, as well as the analysis of statistical data, the state support was categorized by areas associated with achieving physical and economic accessibility of products. To verify the results of the study, a comparative analysis of the data obtained with the data on the assessment of agricultural development used by the OECD was conducted. It was found that at present, most government support measures are associated with maintaining reproduction, and a lack of measures related to maintaining the purchasing power of household income was identified. The analysis showed that the growth of profitability of agricultural production is ensured by reducing the purchasing power of household income. This hinders the effectiveness of state support for agricultural development in the context of the need to implement strategic goals in the field of food security. The results of the study are of practical value for the governing bodies of the agro-industrial complex in the process of preparing recommendations for improving subsidy measures.
