Abstract
The article analyzes the current state of competition in the dairy industry of the Russian Federation using the competitive forces assessment method developed by M. Porter. In the course of the work, the main indicators of the largest agro-industrial holdings are analyzed, the possibilities of dairy companies in the market are assessed, the dynamics of the industry’s development are considered, and the specifics of the companies’ interaction with suppliers and consumers of final products are shown. Recommendations are given to companies in terms of their strategic and sustainable development. It was concluded that intra-industry competition is at a high level, but the attractiveness of the industry remains low, pressure on companies is exerted by both large retail chains and consumers who have low switching costs.
