Abstract

Field experiments in economic research are a key tool for testing hypotheses, analyzing cause-and-effect relationships, and developing an evidence base for public policy. The Government plays a key role in financing, regulating, and promoting field experiments in economic and social research. The results of a comparative analysis by leading countries have shown that improving the legislative framework, simplifying procedures and developing international coordination will help to use the potential of field experiments more effectively to solve socio-economic problems. A special role is played by the development of a network of autonomous and independent structures that facilitate objective monitoring of field experiments conducted, among other things, by government authorities at the federal and regional levels.
