Abstract
This study examines the effects of challenge and hindrance stressors on employee engagement and analyzes the mediating role of job satisfaction. Survey data were collected from 119 bank employees in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, and analyzed using structural modeling with SmartPLS 3.0. The results showed that challenge stress had a positive effect on job satisfaction and engagement, while hindrance stress had a negative effect on both factors. In addition, job satisfaction played a mediating role in the relationship between job stress and employee engagement. These results provide banks with a basis for developing stress management strategies, optimizing job responsibilities, and developing employee support programs to improve job satisfaction and engagement.
