Abstract

Choral singing occupies an important place in modern Chinese culture. There are more than 4000 professional choirs in China, and not only music schools, but also general education schools have their own choir. It is worth noting that the Chinese choral school flourished in the last third of the last century, and today, according to the author of the proposed article, it has reached its apogee. At the same time, the theoretical understanding of the phenomenon of choral art in China is at a very low level. The few scientific studies devoted to this topic, as a rule, reflect narrow and specific phenomena (for example, the specifics of the organization of choral circles, the choirmasters' work on the repertoire for younger schoolchildren etc.), but do not create a complete picture of the functioning of choral culture in China, its specific artistic features, performance practice and the system of training choral conductors. For this reason, a comprehensive study of the choral art of China (especially against the background of the degradation of this culture in Western countries) is relevant and timely to us. The purpose of the article is to identify the origins of Сhinese choral art, its historical and cultural, genre and style characteristics, as well as to demonstrate its most significant phenomena.
