Abstract

The article considers the problem of the sociocultural and spiritual role of art, which reflects the contradictions of human existence. The following tasks are set for the theoretical understanding of this topic. Firstly, it is necessary to identify the content of the concept of “harmonisation of contradictions”, here the typology of ways of artistic comprehension of contradictions is developed and the conclusion about the need for a theoretical research on the harmonising function of art is drawn. Secondly, an attempt is made to reveal the nature and character of the contradictions of being and culture. The contradictions of spiritual culture are passed through artistic consciousness as contradictions between personality and reality. Understanding at a new level the methods and mechanisms of transferring the universal spiritual values of mankind into the subjective personal world of an individual is, according to the authors, an urgent task of modern humanities and culture. Art, with its ability to universalise individual human life and individualise sociocultural values and ideals, occupies a special place in this process. The opposites of universalisation and individualisation as ways of resolving the contradictions between the inner spiritual life of man and sociocultural reality converge in art, when the subject (artist and recipient) lives the life of the phenomenon as his own and thereby rises to universal existence.
