Abstract
The article considers the current design education against the background of the rapid development of the industry, the growing interest in artistic design and China’s experience in this field. The authors analyse the achievements of Chinese design specialists and reveal the features of the so-called “Chinese style”, as well as describe the specifics of the existing system of training future designers, and, for the first time in Russian studies, demonstrate the activities of a network of studios that, in the wake of interest in design education, prepare applicants for admission to higher education institutions. It should be noted that the content and methodology in them are markedly different, as they differ from the requirements and programmes of higher education institutions. The latter are variable combinations of American and European models with a focus on national specifics in the artistic form of students’ creative projects. Special emphasis is placed on the formation and development of creative thinking rather than on the development of visual literacy, which was previously typical of Chinese art education. As a result, the training takes place in the studio system and in the form of creative research.
