Abstract

The main objective of this article is to consider the role of softness and rigidity of forms from the perspective of their importance in the creation of visual images in art. These categories are considered in a historical context, which makes it possible to comprehensively assess their significance and complementarity. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the detailed differentiation of these categories, as well as in the determination of the main parameters of their interaction in the context of various artistic trends and styles. Based on examples borrowed from artistic practice, the key aspects of the interaction of the categories of softness and rigidity of forms, influencing the methods of creating and perceiving works of art, have been identified and systematised. The present study opens up prospects for further research of this influence on the creation and interpretion of works of art. Individual observations obtained in the course of the study may be useful to both theorists and practitioners in the field of art.
