Abstract
The purpose of the article is to identify the essential characteristics of patriotic identity.
The article analyzes the concepts of “patriotism” and “identity”, reveals the role of patriotism in the formation of national, civil and state
identities, establishes the relationships of patriotic identity with national, civil and state identities, determines the differences between them
and reveals the essential characteristics of patriotic identity.
Methods: analysis of scientific literature; comparative analysis of the categories of “patriotism” and “identity”; student surveys; reflection of
domestic experience in the formation of patriotic identity; generalization of theoretical research data and analysis of pedagogical experience.
Results: revealed the common and the difference between patriotic identity and other types of identities; established the substantive
characteristics of patriotic identity.
