Abstract
In this article, the authors considered various approaches to the definition of the concept of "metaverse" and carried out a semantic analysis of the interpretations of this term based on the materials of scientific articles by Russian and foreign researchers, publications in popular scientific publications around the world and analytical reports of global consulting companies. The classification of metaverses according to the scope of application, methods of management and content development is given. An overview of the activities of companies from different spheres in online metaverses, including Russian ones, is presented. The main directions of using metaverses in economic sectors and a list of factors that will hinder the development of metaverses in the future are given.
