Abstract

The article discusses the causes of such a phenomenon as the Self-Defense Forces of Japan at the end of the Second World War, the main milestones of their transformation in the late XX - XXI century. Attention is also paid to new trends in the development of the Self-Defense Forces in connection with the desire of Japan to have a competitive army along with the advanced countries of the world.
