Abstract

Since the Middle Ages, Italy has seen its mission as the transmission of culture, legislation and the Christian faith to other peoples, being geographically a «crossroads of cultures» between the Arab world and continental Europe. At the turn of the XX-XXI centuries, these global civilizational objectives were transformed into the desire to create an Italian empire of beauty, a trendsetter in design, gastronomy and tourism. The main instrument of implementing these tasks in Italian politics is the use of persuasive communication: cultural diplomacy aimed at spreading Italian culture abroad and promoting Italian cuisine and way of life.
