Abstract

Taiwan, as a small island nation, does not have large energy resources and relies heavily on imports. The situation is complicated by the government’s refusal to use nuclear energy. However, Taiwan is betting on the development of alternative sources and is making ambitious plans to reduce the share of fossil sources in its energy balance. Speaking about Taiwan’s energy sector, one cannot ignore the influence of the larger players: the United States and China. This article provides an analysis of Taiwan’s current energy profile and future plans for the industry.
