Abstract
This article discusses exactly how the sanctions imposed against
Russia affected the economic situation within the country. A year ago, the first
Western sanctions caused serious concern. Well-known economists then competed
in pessimistic forecasts.
But a year later, the ruble managed to strengthen over that period and is
now back to its usual value last year. The stock market has restarted again, and
now the price of Russian shares is almost the same as a year ago. In addition,
the exchange did not actually respond to any package of sanctions, and the only
major decline occurred at the end of September.
A kind of “insensitivity to sanctions” has developed in the Russian economy.
Russia not only successfully circumvented the restrictions, but also largely
restored its imports.
