Abstract

The article reveals the role of the banking sector in the development of the NIS of the Russian Federation. Definitions of the term “national innovation system” are presented, defining the essence of the concept based on various criteria that allow us to highlight the general characteristics of the NIS. Groups of institutions that interact with each other within the framework of the NIS of the Russian Federation are identified. The volume of innovation funding and the share of budgetary funds are graphically presented, reflecting a reduction in government funding and a steady increase in the volume of PPP and private funding. The participation of the banking sector in financial transactions is indicated. We identified shortcomings in the current system of interaction between the institutions of the financial component of the NIS and the feasibility of improving the activities of banks in the development of the national innovation system.
