Abstract

The development of human society has entered the 21st century. The prerequisites for global socio-political, economic and cultural development in the new millennium have undergone major changes. The development of sports has entered a period of relatively stable growth. For a long time, understanding the functions of sports was mainly limited to practical goals at various historical stages, biological functions such as strengthening the body, and enumerating various functions. With the emancipation of thinking and the deepening of discussions, people’s understanding of the functions of sports has become deeper. We started analyzing the function of sports from two levels – from the point of view of its connotation and expansion. One can foresee that in the socio-political and economic arena of Russia in the new century, sport will certainly play a more active and comprehensive role in the process of comprehensively building a prosperous society.<br>
