Abstract

The pride of Russia has always been sable. It was in our country that they first began to breed this animal in captivity [1]. His craft flourished in the XV–XVI centuries. In some years, the price of the best sable skin was equal to the price of a cow or horse. And today sable continues to be in great demand on the world market [2]. The main problem of modern cage sable breeding is the low reproductive ability of sables at two and three years of age, while it is not planned to produce offspring in fur farms for one-year-old females and males. Although in the wild, young individuals reproduce at almost the same level as adults (4-10 years) [4].
In this work, we consider the influence of the age of female sables on the timing of whelping to identify the relationship between early puberty and the age of mothers [5].
The work was carried out at the fur farm "Saltykovsky" on the livestock of sables of the Saltykovskaya- 1 breed. As a result of the research, an inverse relationship was found between the age of females and the date of whelping. Consequently, the duration of pregnancy in young (1-3 years) is longer than in sables 4-10 years old.
