Abstract
The article presents the indications and results of the clinical characteristics of permanent and
temporary arthrodesis of the carpal joint in cats.
Permanent arthrodesis is a surgical operation aimed at complete immobilization of the affected
joint by splicing adjacent bones, that is, creating bone ankylosis. Resort to this operation in the case
when conservative treatment is not effective. The consequence of this surgical operation is the elimination
of instability in the joint and the reduction of pain syndrome. Surgical intervention is provided
by a combination of osteophytosis, enthesiophytosis, intra-articular fibrosis, periarticular fibrosis,
capsule adhesion and muscle contracture. As a result, the fusion of adjacent bones is obtained.
Temporary arthrodesis is a surgical operation aimed at creating temporary immobilization of
the joint. This operation is resorted to when performing tendon reconstruction, with fractures in the
growth zone, with muscle contractures in young patients, then the fixators are dismantled.
