Abstract
Syringomyelia is a neurological disease caused by the presence of a fluid-filled cavity in the parenchyma
of the spinal cord or the central canal. This pathology is widespread among dogs of
small breeds. This pathology is widespread among dogs of small breeds. This is usually observed in
combination with a malformation – Chiari malformation.
The article deals with pathologies leading to the development of syringomyelia as a result of
other deformities of the spinal column.
The only and sufficiently effective method of investigation for diagnosis is magnetic resonance
imaging.
This article is based on a study of 100 dogs with neurological deficiency, body weight from 2 to
15 kg, where syringomyelia was the main and secondary pathology. The studied animals are representatives
of different breeds.
