Abstract

Avian reoviruses (ARV) are viruses of the family Reoviridae, genus Orthoreovirus. The pathogen has a varying degree of pathogenicity, which can range from highly infectious strains with tropism affecting many tissues and organs to strains that don’t cause clinical manifestations. The virus can be transmitted both vertically and through sick birds and their excreta. Specific symptoms associated with avian reoviruses include viral arthritis/tenosynovitis and viral enteritis. Each disease manifestation has a marked impact on the economic stability of the poultry industry. RIF, RN, ELISA, PCR and others are used for laboratory diagnosis. Viral disease is easier to prevent than to apply any treatment. Therefore, specific prophylaxis – vaccination (of both young and adult poultry is widely used in the world).
