Econometric analysis of the spatial distribution of industries and enterprises is currently one of the most promising areas of research. There is ongoing debate in the scientific community about which externalities—Porter, Jacobs, and Marshall-Arrow-Romer (MER)—predominate in the analysis of various industries and regions. For each type of externality, a considerable number of studies can be found that demonstrate both their presence and absence, including using econometric methods. This monograph develops a methodology for econometric modeling and assessing the associated effects of regional industry specialization and tests it using the example of the manufacturing industry of the Russian Federation. Specifically, the localization of the manufacturing industry in Russian regions is assessed, its development dynamics are evaluated, the presence of MER externalities is assessed, and the level of industry localization required to generate positive effects is determined. The results obtained can be used to develop a system of indicators designed to monitor the development of regional economic structures and to determine the direction of regional structural policy.
