This monograph presents a modern approach to the theory of aerodynamic forces acting on a body in a viscous, compressible, and heat-conducting gas flow at subsonic speeds. The author develops theories of profile, wave, and induced drag, as well as wing lift in both plane and spatial cases, within a unified approach that generalizes N.E. Zhukovsky's method to the case of a viscous, heat-conducting medium. A unified physical basis for the origin of all traditionally distinguished types of drag, their interrelationships, and their influence on lift are demonstrated. A new type of drag associated with heat exchange between the body and the medium is introduced for the first time. A theory of airfoil and wing lift in a viscous gas flow is also presented for the first time, with heat exchange occurring, including asymmetrically, between the upper and lower surfaces.
The monograph does not contain sophisticated mathematical apparatus and is intended for a wide range of researchers, graduate students and specialists working in the field of theoretical and applied aerodynamics, and can also serve as a textbook for students of aviation and technical universities of the relevant profile.
