Abstract

The article analyzes the problem of the negative impact of solid household waste (SHW) on the environment. The data on the largest operating solid municipal waste (MSW) landfill in the Moscow region were studied. The technique of biotesting of SHW filtrate is given. The results of a sample of bottom sediments from «Timokhovo» test site were analyzed. Conclusions are drawn about the level of toxicity of the landfill filtrate. Possible measures to prevent the penetration of leachate into groundwater are listed.
