Abstract

The purpose of the work. Relevance. In the current year 2022 inflation is a topical object of study not only for scientists-economists, but also for linguists. The very concept is of interest in terms of semantics of English and Russian languages in a cross-cultural perspective. There are various interpretations of this word semantics in different cultures and languages. The aim of this work is to study the concept “inflation” in English and in Russian and to find the differences and similarities in both languages.
The objectives: to interview both Russian and English native speakers in order to identify associations arise in informants; to analyze the data obtained and to identify the similarities and differences of the lexical meaning of the word “inflation” in Russian and English languages.
Materials and methods: questioning, interviewing, conceptual analysis, and definitional interpretation.
Results. In Russian and English, we analyzed the concept of “inflation” from the point of view of the average consumer and the economy of the state. The results of a survey of native speakers of Russian and English are presented, the data obtained are compared with dictionary data.
Conclusion. The results of the research presented in this article can be used in dictionaries of economic terms.
