Abstract

Ixodid ticks are very harmful ectoparasites of animals and humans. They are dangerous in that they are carriers and reservoirs of various vector-borne diseases. For the study of parasites and the testing of new acaricidal drugs, it is necessary to have laboratory cultures of ixodid ticks in quick access. The article discusses in detail the key features of the cultivation of ixodid ticks in laboratory conditions using the example of the species Ixodes ricinus collected in natural biotopes of the Kaluga Region. The key biological and environmental features of the species Ixodes ricinus, the main hosts in natural biotopes are described. In the laboratory, food was offered on white laboratory mice of all stages of development. Environmental factors such as temperature and humidity are fundamental for the full laying of females and the development of larvae. In the process of laboratory cultivation, it is possible to maintain the population of ixodid ticks year-round.
