Abstract

Rabies belongs to the group of the most dangerous zoonotic diseases, is characterized by severe damage to the central nervous system and ends, as a rule, with the death of an animal and a person. Rabies is a threat to public and animal health in the Republic of Guinea.
The study was conducted to describe the epizootic manifestation of rabies in the N'zerekore area, according to the reporting data of the National Veterinary Services Administration (DNSV), the N'zerekore Regional Administration and data from technical structures involved in the prevention, control and surveillance of rabies in humans and animals.
The study showed that in 2015, a total of 544 people were bitten in the N'zerekore area. The decrease in the number of bites recorded during the last two years of the study (2019 and 2021) can be explained by greater awareness of the severity of the disease among the population. Nevertheless, these studies confirm the risk of rabies infection in Guinea and, in particular, in the N'zerekore region, indicate the need to strengthen public education, as well as close cooperation between the animal health and human health sectors, for an integrated approach to combating rabies.
